3 devices. IPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 5s and iPad mini 2. All were upgraded to 11.2.5 within 24 hours last weekend. Noticed the 6s plus was dead after 6 hours with no usage on Sat afternoon. Over the next 4 days I tried everything. Went back to 11.2.2 with iCloud restores from previous Tues. Still had battery drain rest of the week. Finally figured out that they all run normal again with the master iCloud switch turned off. After taking the time to turn iCloud back on again and test what is draining the battery, I discovered that iCloud Drive itself was the main culprit. 6s plus is now running like it was previously with everything other than iCloud Drive enabled (still on 11.2.2). Testing other 2 devices this weekend to confirm the fix. I’m refusing to update all my devices and my family’s devices to 11.2.5 in case it breaks again. If anyone else that has updated to 11.2.5 and has iCloud Drive turned off with minimal battery drain, please confirm this is the fix by turning on iCloud Drive and seeing if it begins to drain again.

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that since updating to iOS 11.2.5 you're having trouble with your battery draining faster than normal. I know how important it is for your device to stay charged properly, I'd like to help. First I'd recommend reviewing the information here regarding iPhone Battery and Performance
Next, you can use these steps to see how your battery is being consumed as well as Settings you can change to get the most from your battery:
About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touchCheck battery usage
Go to Settings > Battery.
To see how long each app has been open and running in the background, tap . Under each app, you might see these usage types:
- Background Activity means that your battery is used while apps run in the background.
- Audio means that apps play audio while running in the background.
- No Cell Coverage and Low Signal means that your device is searching for a signal or being used with a low signal.
- Backup & Restore indicates that your device has been backing up to iCloud or restoring from an iCloud backup.
- Location and Background Location means that your battery was used when tracking your device.
Adjust settings to improve battery life
While viewing your battery usage, you might get a suggestion like Enable Auto-Brightness or Adjust Display Brightness. This is because iOS determined that changing these settings could improve your battery life. You can also see the usage times since the last full charge.

iCloud in general wasn’t the fix to the problem. It was only with I specifically turned off the iCloud Drive switch from within the entire iCloud menu did the battery drain completely stop. Overnigh, battery standby was over 7 hours and usage was 10 minutes. With iCloud Drive on, both usage and standby were the same during the past week. Devices would drain in a couple hours. I was losing my mind. Now I just need to confirm that someone using 11.2.5 has the same result to fix this bug as I’m refusing to upgrade from 11.2.2 at this time.
I don’t blame you. I’m not updating my iPhone 7 or my iPad until I can be sure the battery issue is fixed. Unfortunately I can’t roll back my iPhone 6s as iTunes wont allow it. However, it does give me a tester phone to use to see if the issues get fixed in any future patches. Until then, I’m sticking to 11.2.1
I have an iPhone 6 and have never had a problem with the battery. I upgraded to 11.2.5 and now my battery goes dead in a few hours. I have done everything suggested by apple to extend the battery life without avail. I can't trust that I will have a working phone when I need it.
Ever since 11.2.4 update, my battery has been draining crazy. Fully charged at 5pm, by 11pm it was down to 45%. Seriously?! All the settings were the same as before and now it’s non stop draining. And the battery is getting warm too. What have you done to the updates, Apple?! IOS 11.2.5 did no help either.
I’m using iPhone 7 Plus, battery shouldn’t be that old to drain that much.
So frustrating.
4 month old iPhone 7. Started experiencing the battery drain upon upgrading to 11.2.2.
The drain is substantial enough that I've had to unpair my iWatch to allow all day use without an additional charge. One peculiarity that I've noticed is that the drain is accelerated when the phone's screen is in use, e.g. browsing with Safari or iBooks. The brightness level does not seem to make a difference.
As many on the thread have already noted, I too am disappointed in the continually poor iOS 11 updates being pushed out by Apple.
Just bought my iPhone 8 last week. Firstly the battery was stuck at 80% on first charge for more than 7hrs. Then it got stuck at 88% too after a couple of reboots. Now it’s dying as fast as ****!!!! My iPhone 7 never did this. It could last a whole day too but this drains fast. Don’t blame the device, blame the iOS update. I had to update my phone too before this issue begun
I turned off iCloud Drive on my iPhone 6s which was updated to 11.2.5. It was 100% before going to bed and 7 hours later the battery was dead. In the past week I have replaced this battery twice. (I thought the first replacement may have been a bad battery.) I've tried every solution posted in these discussions as well as from Apple, yet the battery still drains at an unbelievably fast rate! Clearly, replacing the battery is not the answer to this problem. The phone worked perfectly before these last few updates. I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Hi Wanda, I found that once I removed my SIM card, the battery was fantastic. I ran my iPhone 6 on WiFi only and got almost 2 days on a full charge. This suggests that there is an issue with the software relating to phone use. Maybe you could remove your sim and see if your battery issue is similar.
I think we all have enough experience to know options for how to conserve battery, and I have tried everything I know to do. Since the update, the drainage is noticeably significant, even with cellular data turned off and no apps running. My iPhone 7 Plus was at 100% when I went to bed last night, with no apps running. It was at 30% when I woke up 10 hours later. I have NEVER experienced that amount of battery drainage until this 11.2.5 update. Something is wrong.
After "upgrade" 😉 to 11.2.5, my iPhone 7 also has the fast battery drain.
Additionally, it exhibits rapid restarts when plugged in for charging and vibrates when it usually doesn't when airplaying music.
Before 11.2.5 had been rock solid.
Hope Apple has 11.2.6 in the pipeline.
HTH others...
Same for me - iPhone 6s. After the same issue with an IOS 9.x update on my old 4s, I swore I would leave any updates until all the bugs had been ironed out, but on this occasion I had to update the phone 11.2.5 to fix a problem on my Apple Watch - which is also showing signs of battery drain....
Same here. Brand new iPhone 8 64Gb (bought two weeks ago) with installed and re-installed 1.2.5 in DFU mode after a several conversations with apple support guys on battery issue. Background apps refresh, "hey Siri", iCloud drive and all those geo-things are turned off. Battery drains very fast! turned on screen on idle eats about 1% for 1 minute. i get max 5 to 7 hours of very (i mean VERY!) light usage of ios built-in apps (camera, phone, imessage). Last time the support guy told me i should try to reinstall the firmware again because i did it the wrong way - i used DFU mode (with black screen during installation) instead of normal reinstall (with "connect to itunes" logo on the screen).
Same here big time! I used to go to sleep with my phone charged at 100% and wake up with my phone's battery at 98%. I have tried tonight my battery was at 100%, I woke up this morning and it was at 72%! I used to charge my phone once a day but since I update to 11.2.5 I have to charge it 3 times a day..
Is simply unmistakable that the 11.2.5 update created this battery mess..
I hope they do something about quick.
Same here. I’m using an iphone 8 plus just over a couple of months. Moderate usage on a daily basis for checking and replying emails, whatsapp-ing and browsing the net usually last me a day and half or 2 at max. After updating 11.2.5, I’m recharging my phone in less than 24 hours!
Fully charged before I sleep, I usually wakes up at around 5.30 or 6 in the morning and the phone was still on 100% and half an hour after use then only it drops to 99%. But now, i wake up to a 97 or at worst 93% ! Whats going on?
My brother with iphone SE called me yesterday and I had to convince him not to smash his phone since after installing 11.2.5 the battery last him only up until noon!
Apple, you really need to solve this. Its obviously software issues and not the physical battery.
By the way, as far as setting is concerned, nothing changes from the previous ios version.
