Stuck on Welcome to Mail

I deleted my mail app briefly, and am trying to reinstall it. I have the app back on my phone, but am stuck in "welcome to mail." Every time I try to sign in with my google account, it says my email address has already been added, and when I hit "ok" it takes me back to the Welcome screen, and I can't access my email.

iPhone SE, iOS 11.1

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

I see that you removed the Mail app from your iPhone and then re-downloaded it. When you try to set up your email account, it says the email address has already been added and it takes you back to the welcome screen.

I suggest deleting the email account on your iPhone and then re-adding it back. Tap Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Gmail account > Tap Delete Account. Then on the previous screen, choose Add Account and see if it lets you complete the set up without taking you back to the welcome screen.

Actually when I went to do that, the mail app had been switched off. Switching it back on fixed the problem. Thanks!
