Why Wifi is mandatory to update iphones ?

Hello, I'm a French user of an iPhone 6 and I post here since I couldn't find te answer elsewhere... Why does W-Fi is mandatory to download Ios upgrades on iPhones ? Is there any way to avoid this and let the 4G connection download it ??? I have a very bad Wi-Fi Adsl connection at home (300-400kb/s max) but a killer 4G on my carrier that enables me to dl up to 8mb/s.... with unlimited fair-use !!! Does anyone have the answer to either of those questions : - Why did Apple limited the download choice ? - Is there anything that can be done to set the wifi as optionnal and the phone carrier the first choice ? Thanks for your help Merci et bonne journée à tous Ben

Perhaps not your carrier making the request, but it still affects customers of all carriers. It may be unworkable to create differences depending on the carrier. There are certain things that are carrier dependent though. I can't set up my iPhone as a personal hotspot without my carrier enabling it.

Thus, it would be a good thing that apple would enable those like me who have a better phone carrier than Wi-Fi connnection to donwload large apps (games or updates) through 4g / 4g+ and next to come 5G !

Faster/Better/Easier to occupy the network for 2min in 4G (165Mb) than polluting the Wi-Fi for 25min !

Hope one day or within the next update IOs will make this arrangement available
