But that never happens. I have the same problem as the original post, except my right AirPod won't work and they won't reset. I hold the reset button and it slowly flashes white, never flashes amber. I can hold it for 2 mins to no avail. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Got them working again.

I had both my airpods connected to my device. With different names.

I don't know what really triggerd it. Because it's so untransparent how apple upgrade the firmwares for airpods.

But what I have done is the following

Update my iphone with the latest os version.

In bluetooth settings disconnect and remove the bluetooth connection and forgot this device. I did this for the left and right airpod.

Then I put them back in the case and reset them. This time it worked.

Connected them back again to my device and they we're both working.

Check the About for the Airpods. And strange thing was that the firmware was still the old firmware 1A661.

Couple of minutes later it showed the new firmware 1A671.

If anyone has the same problem as I have maybe this post will help them.

Update: the AirPods continued to malfunction so we took them to the Apple Store in Georgia (I live in the capital city of South Carolina but there is no Apple store here) and they replaced the right earbud. The problems continued and we came back to the Apple store and they replaced the case. The problems still continue with the AirPods showing being fully charged but then, later, they will not work or only one will work and show no or low charge. It has been absolutely frustrating and don't know what else to do. We have reset them, turned off Bluetooth, and all other suggestions from the Apple team, but they continue to be unreliable. I bought my wife a pair of BeatsX just so she could hear something and, so far, they have been dependable. This has been a very frustrating time and wish Apple would address what is wrong with the AirPods :'(

I have had these a little over 2 months and have had the same issue the last 2 days. Monday they worked. I put them in the case to charge and Tuesday the right pod wasn't not connecting. Red "!". I have tried resetting my network settings, Resetting the charging case (no amber light only flashing white when held) and several devices. (MacBook Air and iPhone SE and another iPhone SE)

Nothing seems to work. Next step is me taking them into the store. It seems the cases can be defective. I've heard switching the case fixing it.

Thanks so much for this! It certainly helped me...never considered that one of the two weren’t seated properly because the solid green led one to think they were both fully charged - made even more difficult to detect having had “forgot the device”! Once I tried your suggestion I was able to realize that one was fully charged while the other was drained fully...and upon receiving the Amber indication I retried holding down the reset button and was able to pair them once again. Thanks so very much for sharing what you learned!

i washed and dried my airpods but they worked when i took them out of the dryer because i started walking around the house using them. A few days later they won’t connect so i go to reset them and when i push the button nothing happens. The light stays solid green and then cuts off till i let go off the button. kinda seems like it’s not registering the fact that i’m pushing the button at all

Make sure the airpods are so so clean. Since they have magnets in them they attract a lot of little particles and such. Once I gave both the pods and the charging case a good clean and put them all together the amber light came and I was able to reset and reconnect everything! I also followed the advice of another by turning off my network, and just having bluetooth on. I think the cleaning was the useful part, but might as well try that for the connecting process!

I'm using apple products since 2006. I had many laptops, ipods, iphones, ipads until now . But the worst product i bought from Apple is %100 airpods ! I think apple should announce to receive all these faulty airpods back ! The left one of my airpods is not working properly from the beginning (25 July 2018) . I sent it to service to replace it but they didn't . Anyway after the service it worked fine for a while. But now i have the same problems again. Left one is not working and additionally i cannot reset or pair my airpods with any device. Many people has the same issues . And all are trying to find a solution . The solutions i read are ; cleaning , reset network settings , turn off/on your device(ipad, iphone etc) . Still not working ... Hopefully someone can help us to fix it permanently.

I had this too and it was driving me crazy. I FINALLY found the answer on the web after sifting through seemingly thousands of "turn them on" or "put them in your ears" or "make sure you hit play in iTunes"-style answers. What worked for me is to take a q-tip and stick it in the holes in your charging case also and rub it along the contact point on the bottom of your AirPods themselves. This didn't solve my amber light problem but it did solve my initial problem of having one of my AirPods not working.

My AirPods worked perfectly when I first got them, then after a couple uses started to notice left AirPods wasn’t connecting but then I reconnected with Bluetooth and worked perfectly again. Then AirPods didn’t want to connect at all so I went in settings and put forget this device and tried to reconnect and AirPods don’t want to reset or reconnect anymore.
