App windows resize after putting MacBookPro display to sleep when connected to external display

I have an external display connected via HDMI. I've noticed that when I put the monitor to sleep my application windows get resized and collected onto the MacBook Pro's primary display. Is there a native way in OS X High Sierra to pin the windows to their original locations so that they don't have to be manually dragged back and resized?

After the upgrade to Big Sur the windows I place in the second monitor go off screen after I leave the macbook unattended and the screens go off. windows move off screen after sleep I have seen this problem mentioned several times one person learned to live with it and another seemed to solve it. It happens to me on occasion as well. I have two 4K monitors attached to my Intel MacBook Pro and sometimes all of the windows for a particular app will be off the far right of the right hand monitor (the left monitor is the login monitor). Quitting the app and restarting it does not solve the issue. Is there some shortcut that would allow me to move them back to the monitor? I can double click the top of the window and it will expand to fill the screen, but then I must resize each of them. Suggestions

assign window to specific space 1) Is there a way to force a program to open on specific monitor when you open it? I don't see that option anymore, having switched to High Sierra. 2) Tell a window inside a program, for ex: Premiere 2017 (2017.1.2 11.1.2 (22) build), to open in the same spot each time, or at least on the same monitor? Every time I open a folder within Premiere, it opens to the FAR BOTTOM LEFT CORNER, which becomes extremely frustrating since I'm only working off the right monitor. 3) Is there a way to permanently "right size all column individually" so I don't have to constantly adjust windows being always too narrow or too wide? thanks! -zz
