iphone x lock screen rotating to landscape and not being able to unlock

This happened to my iPhone X several times now, I think it since updating to iOS 11.3, and the only fix I can do is to press both the volume down and side power button at the same time, then the screen will prompt you with option to turn off the phone or cancel. I pressed cancel and the lock screen turns back to portrait mode.

Apple - please fix this bug and release a new update. This is getting annoying.

Have you paid any attention to what app you were in before you locked your phone? I have had the same problem and it occurred after I was in an app that was in landscape mode. I tried it a couple times and it did it every time that I locked the phone while still being inside another landscape application. If you notice it happen again. Try and remember what app you were in while it happened. Try not to lock your phone while in a landscape application. But swipe away the app and then lock the phone. Or just go to the home screen first.

I’m on 11.4.2 and it started happening whenever I’m on landscape watching a video or anything and the screen locks the lock screen will come up on landscape the workaround is to bring up Siri then try to unlock cuz Siri comes up on portrait

Hi, I was having the same problem. Such a pain!

I just wanted to let u know, if u flick to go onto camera through the shortcut from the locked home screen, then click on “all photos” then somehow it unlocks enough to get the screen back the other way round. The correct way. Hope this helps.x

Well for the heck of it I just tried that quickly. If I do the following with Safari it will happen.

1 Open Safari

2 turn phone to landscape

3 lock the phone with the side button.

4 turn the phone upright.

5 wake the phone.

It will be stuck in landscape no mater what position the phone is rotated.

A couple lock and in lock cycles will return normal function.

Haven’t tried any other app yet.

I have the same issue. I have been able to get into the phone with frantic opening of notifications or going into camera mode. At some point the phone either opens directly as if FaceID was registered or an options to type in passcode (in portrait mode) appears.

I will try and record the issue next time it appears including a solution to the issue

I'll answer myself: this isn't the reason. I just did another upgrade, from a 4S (ios 8 or 9) to an SE (ios 11), and the bug is showing up on the SE. So it's not hardware-related at all, but rather a bug in newer ios.

Same issue. Only way I know how to resolve it is to completely power down my phone and then restart it.

My iPhone X does the same thing. Along with my wife’s iPhone X. It’s very annoying. I can’t remember what update it started at, but it’s still happening on IOS 11.3.1 Hopefully it gets fixed in future updates, I haven’t read to many people complaining about it when I search though.

Here's a theory: is it caused because of an upgrade from a 7/8 Plus? I just replaced my X under warranty thinking it might be a hardware defect but the bug persists. I've now given up trying to fix it.

Same issue. Had same issue for a few months with my iphone 6 before I upgraded to the X. Started after an ios update. Hoped the new phone would fix this. This should be an easy fix, Apple. Please!

This has been happening on my iPhone 8 for months now, and was happening on my iPhone 6 before that; it is incredibly irritating. I can't believe it hasn't been resolved yet... there's absolutely no need for the lock screen to ever switch to landscape mode.

Did you figure anything out with this issue? My wife’s iPhone X is doing the same thing. I think we may end up taking it in to an Apple store since nothing else seems to fix it.

I just purchased a brand new iPhone X OS 11.4.1 and this is happening ALL the time. For a $1200 phone this is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and completely unacceptable. APPLE please fix.
