Apple 4K TV Black Screen Audio Only in Netflix

I have recently installed the 4K Apple TV. It was working fine until the latest update on January 23rd 2018.


Now Netflix videos play but the screen goes black. You can hear the audio and you can bring up the red control bar but the video is a black screen. I can navigate the menus just fine but as soon as I play any video it goes black. Itunes content works fine. I am not sure about other apps as I only use itunes and Netflix.


I have it connected to a 75" Samsung QLED 4K TV with a certified 4.4.4 SnapAV Binary HDMI 4K cable.


The latest update doesn't give you the option to pick a resolution or "match content"


I have 4 of the new 4K Apple TV's and I turned off automatic updates on the other ones and they are working fine.

Saw a message this morning when ATV wasn't outputting video in netflix saying my HDMI cable doesn't support HDCP, which obviously it does. Rebooted and everything went back to normal.


Somehow the ATV4K loses its ability to output HDCP content after some period of time. I'm sure a bug like that should be resolvable if acknowledged and worked on.

It's so annoying that no one seems to recognice the problem when you talk to the Support. I'm also on my third AppleTV and obv the problem with a new console isn't a fix. Probably it has something to do with how the Sony processer communicates with the AppleTV.


I've also an ongoing support with Sony about this issue but as usually both Apple and Sony suggest that the problem lies on the other part

Same problem here. Apple TV, Netflix 4K, on a brand new LG OLED 65. Restart of Apple TV fixes the problem, but Netflix seems to have no resume feature for this reset. A nuisance trying to find the same program again. Are others really sure that this is Apple's problem? Netflix went off the cliff by introducing auto-play (while browsing) forcing me to mute the TV. 😠

Hello all!

Had same problem with black screen.

Found solution!!! Is below.

In mu case it was black screen, with sound and actually apple tv was working just black screen.

Problem appeared after update of firmware on my android based tv.

Restart of tv and restart of apple tv was jot helping.

Changing of source display, and back to apple tv was also not helping.


Solution: enter tv settings. In my case point called: picture style, it was as personal setup after update of tv, and i just put standard, and black screen dissapeared.
