Delete/disable text edit

I hate text edit and want to get it off my MAC or at least disable it.

I have High Sierra on my MAC Powerbook.

Any way to do this? Thanks.

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

Whenever you go to open a document that would normally open in TextEdit, perform a 'right-click' (Option+Click). In the side menu, hover over 'Open-With' and select 'Other...' in the menu that appears. Then, in the dialogue menu that appears, scroll down to the application that you want to open the text files with by default, select that application, and check the box that says "Always Open With." Then click open, close the file, and you'll never open that file type again with Text-Edit! This article from iMore details another method of setting the default app for a file type.
