identity of backup disk changed-no reason

With no obvious trigger the following appeared on screen:

The identiy of the backup disk: "xxxxxx AirPort Time Capsule" has changed since the previous backup. The disk may have been replaced or erased, or someone may be trying to trick your computer into backing up to the wrong computer.

No previous problems, on automatic backup. It is a 2 TB Time Capsule backing up approx 750 GB from an iMac.

I did get a screen a few hours earlier saying Time Capsule disk full and only going back to May. That is OK with me if older backups get deleted as I add new backups.

Did something happen or can I carry on?

Time Machine was automatically deleting older backups and sending you a message that things have changed on the Time Capsule disk. Carry on.

Per chance is your Mac running OS X Yosemite? If so, Yosemite had a nasty habit of renaming the local host name of the drive and may be the culprit here.
