I appear to be getting 4k HDR coverage using the Nbcsn App on Apple TV 4k on my LG E6. My ATV4K video output is set to auto. TV says I’m getting 2160P HDR and it looks stunning.
Question is according to what I have read NBC is not streaming the Olympics in 4K on the App. If I have the ATV output set to auto and the TV is receiving 4K input does that mean I’m definitely seeing the Olympics in 4K HDR?
I thought the whole point of the software update that created the Auto feature on video output was for the ATV4K to output content in the native resolution of the content. So if the Olympics are streaming in 1080P so should the output and any upscaling would take place in the TV. However the TV should then show 1080p content received just as it does when getting 1080p content from other sources like the cable box.

That feature is for automatically switching the dynamic range and frame rate only, you would need to switch the output resolution manually if you are watching content that isn’t 4K and you don’t want it upscaled by ATV
