Home app on iPhone shows HomePod accessory as "No Response", can't change settings

The 'Home' app on both my iPhone and iPad show the HomePod accessory with "No Response" under the icon. You can tap 'Details' and see settings but can't change anything.

The HomePod responds to "Hey Siri" and plays music fine, and I can Air Play to it from my phone and other devices, control volume and switch songs using the Music app, etc.

But the 'Home' app doesn't work (is read-only) from any device.

I reset and repaired the HomePod and the behavior persists.

(iOS 11.2.5 and HomePod version 11.2.5 (15D59)).

Well, while just posting on here didn't work for me 😝, I did get it working, so I'll describe what I did in case it helps anyone else.

Earlier I had restarted the device used 'Remove Accessory' from the Home app to make it reset, and repaired it. Twice. Still 'No response' in Home app.

Later when I was messing with it again I noticed the Home app not only couldn't connect to HomePod; it also said my Apple TV was not responding (and said "no home hub available" at the top).

So I restarted my AppleTV, then went into AppleTV Settings->Accounts->iCloud and disconnected and reconnected Home Kit.

I think this fixed it, because shortly after, HomePod changed from 'No response' to 'Paused' in the Home app, and I can access it now. Yay. Hope it sticks.

From Set up and use HomePod - Apple Support.

On the iOS device that you use to set up HomePod, make sure that you signed in to iCloud with your Apple ID and turned on iCloud Keychain. You also need to have two-factor authentication set up for your Apple ID.

Someone else has noted that if you normally use separate IDs for iCloud and iTunes then the requirements for iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication have to be met by both accounts.

Not sure whether folks are still having this problem but thought I'd add my experience in case it benefits others. I have several HomeKit devices in addition to a HomePod. The other devices often show up as unresponsive in the Home app. Turning wifi off and on on my iPhone can sometimes solve the problem. Not always, but something to try. I suspect the problem is wifi-based, rather than iCloud-based.

I was doing a little more experimentation last night with my devices and I came across something interesting. I’d like for you to pass along to the engineering team please. First, I borrowed my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11.3 and created a Home for her on my wifi at my house. I removed the HomePod from my primary Apple ID and set it up using my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus then invited my own Apple ID as a guest to her home and the HomePod was working perfectly as it should on both wifi and. LTE. I was able to alter the settings, press play pause and have remote functionality on LTE. I wanted to test some other theories and rule out as many scenarios as possible. So I removed the HomePod from her account. I signed out of my iCloud on my iPhone X and signed back in my iPhone using my “dummy Apple ID” and created a new Home using that Apple ID, then added my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus and again everything was working perfectly fine on both iPhones and both wifi and LTE. I also made a new family iCloud sharing account using the Apple ID and invited my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus, and still everything was working perfectly, so I think it’s safe to assume that it is not related to family sharing or any of the devices themselves, as I was able to clearly operate everything using different Apple ID’s. I tried one last thing where I signed back into my regular Apple ID, recreated my Home and set up the HomePod on my “good” Apple ID. Back to square one, the HomePod is No Response and Hubs Disconnected. I decided to add my mom’s Apple ID as a guest, and this is where it got very strange and interesting. I was still not able to alter the HomePod’s settings, press play/pause or set alarms in the Home app under the HomePod’s settings, but my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus WAS able to do all that and even was able to have remote functionality on LTE for the HomePod and my other HomeKit devices. On her Home app, my Home as a guest, everything was working perfectly and looked fine. Hubs showed as connected and she was able to alter the HomePod’s settings, press play/pause, set alarms, etc. I tried adding my brother back as a guest to my home, but he was having my same issue, so after seeing this, I disbanded my iCloud family sharing account and re-added him as a guest to my Home and viola he was also able to now control my HomePod and HomeKit devices on wifi and LTE. Something is clearly very strange with my account, specifically.
