boot camp says my 32GB USB drive doesnt have enough space for windows 10

Howdy

Have a late 2012 iMac running 10.13.3 with 500GB available memory on 1TB drive.

Bought a copy of Windows 10 from MS, and in trying to load the Windows 10 ISO in Boot camp to a blank 32GB USB drive it comes back with message that there is insufficient space on the USB drive for the program, It is clearly stated in many places that it should only require 16 GB or so.

Am I missing something?

You do not need to download the ISO to the USB. Download the ISO from Microsoft's Software Download page and leave it unmounted on your Desktop or Documents folder (but not Downloads), and run BC Assistant. Use BC Assistant and use Create/Download options to create an installer and use the Install option to install Windows.

If your USB is a USB3 flash drive, you will run into issues. The error is because there is at least one file greater than 4GB which will not fit a FAT-formatted USB file system.

Hey Loner T, thanks.

In Boot Camp, what I was working on was getting the program onto my iMac. It seem like I have to first make a bootable USB drive to work with. I was using a 3.0 flash drive. The ISO, which on my desktop as you recommend, shows up automatically in Boot Camp to move ahead in moving ahead to get it on onto my USB drive. I do have a 1TB Seagate drive. Would that work better? Should I get a 2.0 USB flash drive?

It seems like this whole process should be a lot easier....can you recommend perhaps a YouTube video or other reference guide for this?

I really do appreciate your input.
