HP LaserJet P1106- The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.

Since I updated my OS to Sierra (and then High Sierra) I've been facing this problem. Printing has been a largely hit or miss issue. Sometimes I am able to and sometimes I get this message on starting the printer - "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."

I've reset the printing system in System Preference many times.

On making a USB connection the OS is obviously reading my printer as a hard disk.

HP troubleshooting is mostly like shooting arrows in the dark. And it has not worked for me.

Is there anything I can do? Or should I junk this printer and buy a new one. If I do buy a new one what would you recommend. (Entry level Monochrome printer)

My current system - iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013) , 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

So today I unplugged the printer- USB and power - rebooted the iMac. On plugging back the printer it is working fine.

It makes me believe that the problem is not with HP drivers. The problem is that MacOS is reading the printer as a USB harddisk. There is some setting in the MacOS that needs to be changed so that it doesn't read the printer as a HDD.

I tried looking at the disk utility and sure enough the HP printer is being shown there as an external drive. But there is nothing that I can do there to change the status.
