Poor performance after High Sierra update

Hello! I have a problem with the performance of my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011). After upgrading from Sierra to High Sierra, I began to slow down everything, including typing from the keyboard (pressing did not match the text). I made a manual backup of files and installed El Capitan from scratch (because I thought that it is just will not run slowly). Everything began to work better, but did not return to the state before the update. I think that the problem with the patches from Specter and Meltdown. But I do not find these reviews in a large amount.

I tried these items from other threads, but nothing helped:

Shutdown the computer, wait 30 seconds, restart the computer.

Resetting your Mac’s PRAM and NVRAM

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

Start the computer in Safe Mode, then restart normally. This is slower than a standard startup.


Also installed EltreCheck and made a report from it. I also do not have a battery, its service life is over. The computer is powered by a power adapter.

if you have disconnected the battery, that is a bigger mistake than just slowness.


In a desktop Mac, there are some power capacitors that smooth out the DC power to keep surges and sags out of the electronics. On a notebook computer, the battery itself performs that function. If you disconnect or remove the battery, you leave all the electronics open to spikes and sags in the power, that may cause damage.


I think that the problem with the patches from Specter and Meltdown. But I do not find these reviews in a large amount.

Apple has not pushed out the "everybody" patches known to slow down your Intel processor. The Apple patches for these issues are MUCH more targeted and thoughtful, and have negligible impact on performance.

You have not enabled TRIM on your SSD. If you want your Mac to be reasonably fast, you must enable TRIM, or your drive eventually fills up with deleted data. Then every write gets VERY slow, because there are no big blocks of free space that can be pre-erased to be ready to write new data quickly.


This has two parts:

1) enable TRIM


In Terminal, type this command, enter your password (which will not be echoed) and agree to the "Riot Act" terms, and agree to a Restart now:


sudo trimforce enable


2) purge the old deleted data from your drive:


Restart again is Safe mode. Safe Mode does a five-minute Disk Repair, during which the new setting of trimforce will be honored, and deleted data blocks will be purged. [This setting is not used during Recovery mode, so a Disk Repair in Recovery will not do the same deleted data removal.]

If you simply Boot into Safe Mode, and allow it to proceed to at least the login screen, you do not even need to invoke Disk Utility First Aid/Repair Disk -- because it does a pass of Disk Utility First Aid/Repair Disk automatically as it starts up.


This is a more thorough repair than you can do from almost any other method, because it does the Repair before it starts MacOS. This means it can unmount and repair the entire Disk.
