CarPlay disconnecting

Hello, Bought a new 2018 BMW 430i and have been having issues from the start with CarPlay using my iPhone X. Continuously disconnects and then reconnects. Usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Has anyone else had this issues and found any resolutions. I’ve been in contact with BMW and they are saying numerous people have been reporting it and it’s an Apple software issue.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5

Yesterday I went to the local Apple store. They erased and re-installed the IOS on my IPhone X. Since then, car play is working great. If it fails again, they say the issue will most likely be hardware at which time the phone will need to be replaced.

My 2016 Mustang has been doing this since I updated to ios 11 on my 6s. I have updated my Sync 3 firmware from 2.2 to 3.0 and also updated my phone to ios 12. Carplay will randomly disconnect and often gets stuck in a connect/disconnect cycle that is very annoying. Now it will only connect for a few seconds then nothing. Carplay icon won’t even show up. I’ve tried all of apple’s suggestions without luck.

Hi.

I also drive a Mini Countryman Hybrid, and I keep having trouble with Carplay. Sometimes it doesn't find my iPhone 6, and I have to reconnect through the menu on the touchscreen. I mainly use it to listen to Deezer, and sometimes it will not load my downloaded playlists. Also, when I am driving and want to listen to the radio, it keeps opening apple music, whilst there is no music there. Then I use a shortcut button to go back to the radiostation, and sometimes I have to do that 5 times before I can listen to the radio again.

I get so frustrated, sometimes I don't even get to connect to either the radio nor Deezer, so I'm just driving around in silence.

It's a pity, as this feature is not cheap and I really hoped I would have been able to listen to my music without audiowires.

I hope Apple solves these issues quickly.

I am having the exact same issue, which only started when I upgrade to the iPhone Xs (OS is on iOS 12.0.1). My previous phone, the iPhone 6s did not have this issue. I also tried the troubleshooting steps above and enabled USB Accessories when locked under the Face ID & Passcode settings as I understand that enabling this setting can cause CarPlay to fail after the phone is locked for 1 hour. None of these steps resolved the issue and the phone constantly connects and disconnects making CarPlay unusable. Is Apple going to address this problem or just continue to ignore it?

I have a 2018 Nissan kicks and an iPhone X. When I first got the car I didn’t have any issues with the Apple car play but the next day is when it kept disconnecting from my phone and wanting to use my Bluetooth instead. I tried switching the cords and everything but it’s not working. When it does want to work it’s only for a few minutes until my phone screen locks then it disconnects.. so idk what’s going on but it’s getting a bit annoying..

Wanted to add this image to show the annoyance this causes in addition to the single speaker mono output. This area that says "External dialogue" is normally where I check things like mpg, temperature, battery performance, etc. When carplay connects to the car as a voice call, this is all I see. In the Raptor its not this bad, but when I adjust the volume up and down the screen shows "Voice Volume" on the overlay instead of the "Entertainment Volume".

Have tried all those things too. 2017 Yukon, BMW 6 series, Just got a 2019 Kia Niro last week... same problems!!!! My phone (7), my wife’s phone (6 plus) OE Apple cables, too many to list aftermarket cables.... all with the same result!!!! Might work for an hour, maybe 2, maybe 10 minutes... sometimes you can unplug and replug, sometimes not. Reboot phone, turn off car.... there’s NO rhyme or reason to when it will or will not work. Car dealers blame Apple.... third car, now I’m tending to agree.

It’s getting really old though. I’ve been an iphone user since its inception.... I’ve put up with the lame iTunes way of adding music to my phone.... but what’s the point if I can’t use it in CarPlay? Is it time to start thinking about an android or something? SOMEBODY has to have a solution!!!!

Having the same problem with a Subaru Outback 2018. Tried different length cables, all Apple manufactured. Same story. CarPlay stops working after about 10-15 minutes. It's startling if you're in the middle of a phone call and suddenly it disconnects and you get blasted by the radio which now automatically turns back on. Suddenly you've got to fidget with the volume and reach for the phone so you can tell the person your CarPlay disconnected again. All the while in traffic. DANGEROUS! Please fix this Apple.

Hi,

Given all the problems people are having with CarPlay disconnecting, why is it that there are no responses from Apple Computer other than the standard lightning cable suggestion and other obvious trouble shooting steps. If I knew CarPlay was going to be so unreliable I would have ordered my new car with Nav built in.

Come on Apple, at least tell us you’re working on this problem.

Same issues as others. Problems with dropped connections after 2 minutes over the past 2 years. Some days are worse than others. Changing apps also disconnects it pretty reliably. Happened with iOS 11.x off and on, actually went away with iOS 12.0 this fall, but it’s back worse than ever starting the day I updated to iOS 12.1. I don’t use CarPlay currently because it makes my phone pretty unstable after a few disconnects (like losing cellular on a brand new XS), and I have to restart my phone to get things working correctly again. And yes, like others, I’ve tried all the same BS steps Apple repeatedly says for the past 2 years.

Apple... c’mon!
