CarPlay disconnecting

Hello, Bought a new 2018 BMW 430i and have been having issues from the start with CarPlay using my iPhone X. Continuously disconnects and then reconnects. Usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Has anyone else had this issues and found any resolutions. I’ve been in contact with BMW and they are saying numerous people have been reporting it and it’s an Apple software issue.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5

Yesterday I went to the local Apple store. They erased and re-installed the IOS on my IPhone X. Since then, car play is working great. If it fails again, they say the issue will most likely be hardware at which time the phone will need to be replaced.

I have a 2018 Subaru Impreza and since I got the car I’ve used 4 different cables and even the wireless CarPlay and after 40 minutes it completely shuts off and then my car connects to the phone via Bluetooth unless I unplug the phone from the cable and reconnect it. Doesn’t seem conducive to hands free driving if I have to fumble with my phone every 40 minutes

Changed cable with a Apple certified cable, same results.

This problem is extremely intermittent.

Personally, I think this is low on your priority list. Apple (you) seems to think this problem can wait, not true.

More and more Cars, trucks and even high-end Motorcycles are having CarPlay with Apple and Android abilities.

Along with your declining Stock prices and and underestimating Android you will loose a bigger market share.

You need to look at the bigger picture before you loose more users.

you might be right. I have Honda Ridgeline (many Honda victims on this thread) that disconnects randomly often, or does not connect at all. I've tried all kinds of "fixes" but the problem persists. Please update your findings if you have any more info. Not sure what NAV head unit the Honda Ridgeline uses. Thanks for you efforts. It's a dangerous issue having to reconnect carplay all the time.

The above answer does not really solve the problem. I have an iPhone 7 running the latest version of iOS12 and a brand new Honda CR-V. There is only one usb port that works with carplay. I have done all the reboot, restart, change cable, update iOS, etc. stuff. Honda even changed out the USB port. But the carplay continues to disconnect, usually between 3 and 5 minutes after the carplay has first been connected. I then unplug and replug the lightning cord between 1 and 3 times, and eventually it settles down and stays connected. This is a silly situation. There is something unstable in the software connection between carplay and the iPhone. Either that or there is some interference that causes carplay to disconnect. BTW - the disconnect is not dropping phone calls (that is bluetooth anyway), it is using maps, playing music on iTunes or Spotify, playing podcasts, and that sort of thing.

Apple, what:s the problem !!! I see this tread is 1 year plus and had this issue on my LandRover Evoke but thought the issue was with LandRover. I get my new Cadillac XT4 along with a new iPhone XR abd still have the same issue. Been reading this thread and none of the recommendations works. It's been a Year plus and still an issue, you sell your phones for 1000$ +....fix it would you!

Feeling much better knowing I'm not the only ones having this trouble. This problem has been happening since I picked up my Acura RDX last year. Its been more than a year and it seems Apple still has not rectified the problem. Did the problem get worse for everybody with the newest update released a week or 2 ago?

Ever since I updated, I went from having one to two disconnection upon every time I start my car to now having 6-7 disconnections upon startup.

I’ve had this issue with 2 brand new vehicles. I asked the service department to check the issue they said they’d had multiple complaints about this but it was an Apple problem. SO Apple needs to fix this. Advising to update software, disconnect/reconnect is nonsense (and impossible whilst driving), use another port etc - I’m SO p****d off with it, happens all the time so I’m back to Bluetooth and will change to an Android next upgrade &@$*#%^€~¥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
