CarPlay disconnecting

Hello, Bought a new 2018 BMW 430i and have been having issues from the start with CarPlay using my iPhone X. Continuously disconnects and then reconnects. Usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Has anyone else had this issues and found any resolutions. I’ve been in contact with BMW and they are saying numerous people have been reporting it and it’s an Apple software issue.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5

Yesterday I went to the local Apple store. They erased and re-installed the IOS on my IPhone X. Since then, car play is working great. If it fails again, they say the issue will most likely be hardware at which time the phone will need to be replaced.

This only seems to happen to me on long trips. That, of course, is when I need CarPlay the most. Usually it will recover if I turn off the car and turn it back on. This past weekend, that didn't work. I had my iPhone, "forget the device (car)" and reconfigured Carplay from the beginning. Who knows how long this reset will last.

My BMW dealer says that Apple continually releases s/w with bugs that they have to deal with. One thing he suggested to try is to hold down the power/volume knob and that will reboot your system in the car. That may help. I haven't had the problem since he told me to do that, so I can't say that I've tried it. My 530e did get better with the latest iOS and a BMW update.

I tried with :
3 new cables
• iPhone 6 and iPhone X
• Differents USB ports
• iOS update...
Still disconnecting.
I hadn't this problem with Android on a Galaxy S8+ (-_-)

Did you factory reset your Navigation? That's the only variable you haven't changed.

A reset and factory reset are two separate things.

Glad you got a better phone.

good question - I don't know. Interestingly though, I spoke to my BMW dealer's service department, and they said it is a known issue that Apple is working on....

I tried out car-play this morning (6/27/2018) again by listening to iheart radio and also display the active map. The lag was so terrible and unresponsive that I switched back to BMW idrive very quickly...

I will test car play again once the next iOS update is released. Till then car-play is dead to me .....

Everything points to this being an Apple software issue. While some have found success jiggling the cord, removing an app, turning some system thingy on or off, etc., others clearly have found no solutions despite attempting the suggested solutions. I hope folks continue posting their solutions in the event they are helpful to someone else, but chances are there is no universal solution until Apple directly addresses it. IMO this is akin to all the reported bugs after any software/hardware release -- some have better battery life, some have worse, some phones crash, some claim it's the best update ever. So I can understand a transient glitch with CarPlay despite the inconvenience to me. What I can't understand is Apple allowing this to fester for 2-3 years now.

I deleted Google Maps yesterday, and so far so good (insert conspiracy theory here), but I'm certainly not holding my breath...

One other thought. Whereas it is easy to think of this an Apple problem because it is occurring across multiple vehicle models, it might be useful to hear from others experiencing the problem with the name of the manufacturer of the navigation head in your car. This might help narrow down the source of the problem to some sort of interaction between the Apple device / software and the navigation head hardware and software.

For example, on the two Subaru vehicles I have (Outback and Impreza), the navigation head is made by Harmon Kardon. The connection method is through a Apple certified Lightning cable.
