CarPlay disconnecting

Hello, Bought a new 2018 BMW 430i and have been having issues from the start with CarPlay using my iPhone X. Continuously disconnects and then reconnects. Usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Has anyone else had this issues and found any resolutions. I’ve been in contact with BMW and they are saying numerous people have been reporting it and it’s an Apple software issue.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5

Yesterday I went to the local Apple store. They erased and re-installed the IOS on my IPhone X. Since then, car play is working great. If it fails again, they say the issue will most likely be hardware at which time the phone will need to be replaced.

Very specific— In my 2018 Camry xle hybrid iPhone 7+had connection problems with certified cord. When I purchased galaxy - no problems. All started one month after obtaining car when an apple update 12.1 destroyed connection . IT IS AN apple issue they are unable or unwilling to fix!!! Toyota’s unwillingness to update their 2018 model is also to blame. So I now use a Honda Accord with no problems

In addition, the companies that make navigation heads, like Harman Kardon, make multiple different models. It is possible that one model has no problems and another model does. As an example, from their website, they claim to be a supplier for Subaru, Jeep, and Chrysler. As noted in my earlier post, I am having trouble with 2 Subarus and no problem with a Jeep or Chrysler.ow

As someone that works in the technology industry, I know the most difficult of problems to solve are when multiple parties need to collaborate on the solution of the problem - in this case the automobile manufacturer, the navigation head manufacturer, and the phone manufacturer. Each party wants to blame the other.

The troubleshooting is so difficult because there are days when it doesn’t happen at all and then days when it does it every 1-3 mins ... I don’t know how or why that would’ve fixed it but I can connect a Android to the system and have never had it miss a beat ... it’s not the headunit it’s something within the iPhone that’s causing it ... similar to how all iPhones have freezing and glitch issues at 100% battery but still connected to power not always but sometimes ... and I’ve had every single iPhone except for the skip over the 8 ... I thought it was notificationsnonmy phone because it hadn’t done it in a while when one day my wife messaged me via google hangouts while I was driving and the exact moment her notification came in it disconnected but, I couldn’t duplicate that same result ... I think it’s almost time to move on from Apple, I’ve been with them since the original iPhone but I use my vehicle a lot and having one of the main features I picked out not working because of the phone, is disheartening ... the photo is of me driving down the road and the phone not only disconnected but caused the entire unit to restart ... this happens occasionally as well ... I don’t know how but there’s got to be a way this thing is tracking logs in the backend but I don’t know how to extract them and fully analyze without screwing anything up AND I should never have to do it in the first place ...

If they’re reading through this thread and experiencing very similar if not exact same issues as everyone here. Clearly I’m not alone in believing 100% that there’s a problem with the Apple software stack. CarPlay with iTunes playing music will pause, Freeze stop playing and in my 2019 Subaru Outback will lock up the entire head unit display. In my 2018 Audi A4 premium plus when CarPlay with iTunes playing music it will also drop Freeze stop playing. That head unit also becomes non responsive. All with iPhone X and latest iOS.

whats up Apple?

I have the Same issue with my iPhone8 and mini cooper S. The last time it hapened is when my dealer was trying to call me.

Not only does the connection not work, it also overheats. It is very unfortunate when you are navigating and your phone overheats or your connection gets lost. The only solution I found that works is restarting phone and car. Try doing that at 120km/h. I thaught this supposed to increase safety?

I also have have a Mazda which uses the cable and never have I encountered any problems. I also have an ikea wireless charger and this works fine as well.

As someone else pointed out. Both car and phone are not cheap. So I at least expect it to work properly.

Resetting is a viable fix until the BT profiles in the car go wonky again. Ever had to reformat a computer that was misbehaving?

These are complex systems, an occasional reset is not out of the ordinary.

Brand new car, little odd in this case. How long have you had I it? Do all I phones connected to it display the same symptoms?

FYI - I've never known BMW to announce a software update. Was this a hardware fix?

Also having this issue. Recently upgraded from an iPhone 6s to iPhone 8 and now experiencing constant disconnections to CarPlay whereas it was relatively stable before with the same car (Audi S3) and same lightning cable. Only way to get it connected is by physically disconnecting and reconnecting the cable multiple times only until it drops out again. Very frustrating and from speaking to many others, seems like a widespread issue. Apple really needs to address this bug rather than giving basic instructions on switching phones on and off and trying other USB ports as clearly it is not as simple as that..

I also have a 2018 BMW 430i. My iPhone was fine until the last iOS update. I have bought there were improvements to multiplay audio or something. I wonder if that broke CarPlay? It ended my ability to effectively join calls while driving - very frustrating and a waste of time. I’ll remove and re-add the connection as some have stated but not thinking it will resolve the issue.
