Location of startup chime sound on HD

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what the location of the audiofile for the startup chime is on an 2016 iMac with High Sierra installed?

I tried to mute the sound but there's no setting in system preferences for it, and doing it in terminal is too hard. So I thought replacing the audiofile with a a file that is just blank silence could do the trick. But I can't find the sound anywhere on the HD...

And what needs to be done in Terminal?

I have a Late 2015 27" Retina iMac with Mac Os High Sierra 10.13.3 and tried several commands in Terminal, but none of these worked:

sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%00

sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%80 (I don't understand why it should be %80, but some sites suggest so)

sudo nvram BootAudio=%00

sudo nvram BootAudio=%80

Any idea why it does not work on my iMac? I had a 2009 oder 2010 Macbook Pro where I was able to turn off the Boot Sound with one of these commands (I don't remember which one exactly), but no chance with my iMac.

dialabrain, thank you very much! That worked immediately.

From what I understand, Onyx also just puts some lines into Terminal... wondering what command it uses to mute the startup chime. Anyway, thank you very much for your help! I've been looking for an hour to come up with a solution, but have found only non-working terminal commands so far.

Appreciated!
