Setting up HomePod on college wifi that requires sign in

same deal with appletv

there are 2 options

1. get the it department of the school to add the MAC address to a valid list which need not signin by browser

2. get ones own wifi router which connects to the school network and when it have a network connection it can pass it on to devices on the wifi network it itself creates

I have had some luck having my iPhone connected to hotel WiFi, using my iPhone for a personal hotspot, connecting my iPad to my iPhone hotspot, and then setting up the HomePod from the iPad. This has worked in two different hotel locations, although I still wonder how reliably repeatable this process is.

apart from the way described there are a wide range of various network tools for both windows and mac which can provide the MAC addresses for devices present on the network

it's a thing for all wifi enabled devices without a screen and a browser, same deal with appletv's and smart devices such as nest and the likes.

Is complicated by the fact that the HomePod's Mac address isn't listed anywhere on the device, its packaging, or through any iOS utility. 😐

You and I might know what to do, but it is another hurdle for those expecting a plug and play experience, e.g. the OP's daughter who probably doesn't have other hardware to work with.
