Setting up HomePod on college wifi that requires sign in

Bought a HomePod for my daughter but she can't set it up because the wifi in her dorm requires a device to log in when starting to use that wifi. Then I searched and it said it only works with personal wifi and not according to an apple support note with:

  • Public or subscription networks with sign-in requirements. For example, hotel networks with a captive portal.
  • Enterprise-style deployments, using 802.1x.

I can't imagine I'm the only one in this situation. Does anyone know a work around to get it set up? Once its logged into the wifi it should be fine. Wonder if they will officially fix this or if I need to return the HomePod.

Thanks

Michael

same deal with appletv

there are 2 options

1. get the it department of the school to add the MAC address to a valid list which need not signin by browser

2. get ones own wifi router which connects to the school network and when it have a network connection it can pass it on to devices on the wifi network it itself creates
