iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

Apologies, I thought i was replying to the original post, simply to add my comment to the issue in hopes of getting Apple to correct this.

If you had taken a few minutes to read past the first post, you'd learn:

A: This is user to user ONLY forum and Apple isn't here, won't respond to you or read your comment

B: If you want Apple to know your thoughts you can find the way to reach them posted over and over in this thread

C. Why Apple made this change and WHY IT'S VERY UNLIKELY Apple will "correct this" to begin with

This is super annoying! I just updated yesterday and ran into this confirmation absurdness. I’m someone who deletes txt threads regularly to keep things neat and organized. Adding the extra key stroke makes this extremely unfluid. Hope they give us an option to remove the confirmation. 🏻

Oh yeah, yet another poster who didn't read past the first post to see WHY Apple did this, or how to actually tell Apple what they think.

I’ve had an iPhone for over 7 years never once have deleted a thread in accident, and I did tell Apple how I feel.

Ah, someone so perfect they don't need to be protected from accidents. I so envy you. But I and my associates have been answering about a half dozen posts a day for years from people who have accidentally deleted messages, and feel the loss of messages that were important to them. Many are routine, but several have been the last messages from someone who died, and many from people who need the texts for legal reasons.

I’m sure I‘ll regret chiming in but to clarify, the issue is not with the feature itself, it’s with the inability to disable it as an option in settings. And the workarounds are an equal (if not more) number of steps, so that’s not helpful. BUT, to previous points made, I now know how to post feedback to Apple for such issues (which is not through these forums) and I’ll keep that in mind for future posts (if I dare do it again for fear of the wrath of the forum trolls). And as a final word, I find it helpful to see 60+ pages of people having the same issue - i check this before i do an iOS upgrade, and when i see something repeat so much, it helps me realize that the problem is real and not specific to someone’s own phone, settings, lack of knowledge, etc. That said, i am guilty of viewing the first page and then spot checking a few other pages, but no, i didn’t read all 60+ pages. Again, lesson learned, which i could have received more effectively by a more professional and courteous response. But i receive it nonetheless.

As this is a user-to-user forum, I'm not sure what you mean by a "professional" response. No one in this thread, to the best of my knowledge, does this professionally. Are people here likely to be more blunt than Apple's customer service employees? Yes, probably.

Then to repeat the question, why are you telling us other users? Just in the hope you will annoy us?

OMG. Seriously? When I said I have, I mean, after posting this, and not knowing I could post somewhere else, I went to the link posted by IdrisSeabright and voiced my concern there. I'm new to this. Sorry for even trying.

If you hadn't known the link, it would seem that something like "Thanks for providing the link. I'll give feedback." would have been a more appropriate response than "Chill. I have". The latter implied to me that you'd long since provided feedback and I was an idiot for bothering to waste your time by giving it again.

I wonder if Apple even looks at these request? It can’t hurt to try. I sent the below this a.m.

“As you well know by now, the software update 11.4.1 requires one to swipe, then delete, and then delete again. This a useless, annoying feature that *****. What next, are they going to require the user to add their Apple ID to delete. This is a stupid feature and we should have control to turn off.”

No. Apple does not monitor the post here for problems for engineering. The only they check is for violations of the Terms Of Usage.

No, Apple does not look at the posts in this forum. They have feedback links for that. This is a user to user support forum. Apple is not here except for the Host team.

And it is highly unlikely that the need to confirm your delete is going to change or that you are going to get a Setting to be able to turn it off. The more people that start using Messages in iCloud, the more important this feature will become. Because if you are using Messages in iCloud and you delete a message, you currently cannot retrieve it. It is not backed up and cannot be recovered. The last thing that anyone needs is for an option to be something that someone can turn off or on, and which has an entirely different effect on final recovery of a message depending on how you have Messages set up.

So, time to move on and find something that really has an impact on your life to worry about.
