Capture NX2 regularly becomes unresponsive

Hi to all!

Still trying to find a solution.

Regularly, the program becomes unresponsive when I open or save a file. This happens since updating to Yosemite.

I found this discussion, which describes exactly the same problem, but (I still don't understand why it is so) I can't reply to it. There's no solution in it.

I wanted to contact the member who initiated that discussion, but it doesn't seem possible.

Thanks a lot for you attention!

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. Please post if this worked or not.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. Please post if this worked or not.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. You can run the report for free at least once, but if you run it several times, at some point it will ask you to pay a license fee.

You are welcome. Based on what you posted, it appears it doesn't work in the Safe Mode, so there is no need to uninstall 3rd party applications.

According to the article below, it isn't compatible with OS 10.10. Check for a new version. I saw NXD had been released.

Mac

OSMac OS® X versions 10.7.5, 10.8.5 or 10.9.2; runs as a 64-bit native application in 64-bit mode

Thanks a lot Eric!

The new admin user solution didn't work.

I did disconnect all peripherals except those needed, shut down, wait 10 seconds, boot in Safe Mode... strangely, I can't open NX2 in Safe Mode. I get this message: "Please install the font Arial to run Capture NX." ??? I don't get it.

English is not my first langage... did you want me to try NX2 in Safe Mode? I'm not sure.

I rebooted, and I still have the problem.

Sorry, I'm having problem to understand what I should do now. Uninstalling 3rd party applications?

I know my situation is complicated.

  • I don't like NXD, I've tried it. It's less powerful.
  • I absolutely need to use 2.4.6 version of NX2, because I use an application (NEF4NX2) that makes possible the opening of the raw files of D750 camera in NX2, and that NEF4NX2 works only with 2.4.6 version of NX2.

Something strange, when I try to reinstall the application (I thought that would possibly fix the problem), I get this message:

This version of Capture NX2 requires Mac OS 10.7 or newer on an Intel processor in order to proceed with the installation process.

I'm on 10.10.5 version... ???

It's not possible to contact privately some other community members? I'd be curious to know what happened with the members in this discussion (I posted that link in my first message): https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6627842
