Pages documents keep disappearing?

Ever since I got the new macbook pro, my Pages documents have been disappearing. I'll go into the pages folder, and there will be nothing saved. When I go to "Open recent" and try to open the document I was looking for, a popup saying"The document, _______, cannot be opened. The file doesn't exist."

I have turned on iCloud for Pages. I don't understand why my pages keep ceasing to exist? They don't appear in the trash, or when I try to use time machine.
