Photo upload from 1st Gen iPad

I have an album on my 1st Gen iPad of several hundred photos taken some years ago. The iPad is running iOS 5.1.1, the latest that can be loaded. I wish to upload the album to my 5k iMac PHOTOS app on High Sierra.

However PHOTOS cannot see the album when the iPad is plugged in via USB. I turned on Photo Stream which then loaded into the iPad, but the photos already on the iPad did not upload to PHOTOS.

Even Lightroom cannot access these photos.

I can see no way to get the photos already on the iPad to upload into PHOTO or any other app.

If you use an older version of iTunes (version 12.6.3 or earlier) so you can still save and download apps, you could look for photo transfer apps in the iOS App Store.

Most photo transfer apps use a companion Mac app or use an FTP or iP address over your local Wifi network to access the photos through the Mac companion app or through a Web browser to transfer -hotos/images and videos wirelessly to your Mac.

The photo transfer app that I use and still has an old iOS 5.1.1 is called Photo Transfer App.

You need to download the most recent one to another iDevice or older iTunes on a computer, then try downloading the app from the App Store on your 1st gen iPad. Apps that still have an older version available will give you a pop-up indicating such and you can use this app to transfer your iPad 1 photos over WiFi on both your iOS devices and your Mac.

The problem is that the iPad 1 did not have a camera, and the way you import photos is via the Camera Roll. Photo Stream Photos can also be set up to import automatically to the Photos app on the Mac, but photos in an Album had to have been either copied to the iPad via the old camera cable, or had to have been sync'd via iTunes.

I think your only option is to mail them to yourself. Once they have been mailed, you can save them to Photos directly from the email on your Mac. You can import the entire group on an email into Photos by clicking on the little attachment icon in the middle of the screen:
