Xsan share over SMB gone? AFP is fine

Hi, when upgrading from 10.12.x to 10.13.x my sharing of Xsan has changed. I've managed to get the AFP up and running, but SMB is a no go... It will not use network users, only local users on that server... so how come AFP works with network users and SMB not ?
