Essentially, the Heart Rate sensor uses green light to read your heart rate. Tattoos distort that green light and therefore prevent your heart rate from being read accurately.
This article says the following:
Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.
Thanks, I’ve read this information already, of course it was after I got my newest tattoo because I couldn’t figure out why it kept locking. I guess I was hoping there would be an advancement in the tech used. At the very least there should be more of a warning that the watch has “limitations”
There is no such thing as "tattoogate" and I long for the day that adding gate to everything completely fades away.
ANY technology that uses light sensors has had and will continue to have trouble with tattoos and other items as described above. Until someone invents a sensor that does not use visible light for heart rate, etc. on a wearable your will have trouble using them.
