ImageCapture+iPhoneX

Hi, I’m a photographer and years ago disabled iPhoto’s on my Mac as prefer using Image Capture to transfer iPhone images, videos and various edits via my Mac to external hard drives. I have not been able to populate Image capture since getting the iPhone X. 😱😱😱 I have all the most recent updates. I have iCloud photos on and keep the original and edited files in my phone. Am running out of space and would prefer to not download thousands of images from iCloud. I would very much like to populate Image Capture again. The apple store told me I need to switch off iCloud photos after having done a backup to the computer and iCloud. However am not feeling so comfy about that. Has anyone had the same problem let alone found a solution please...?

There is no iPhoto's - there was iPhoto and there is Photos

And if iCloud Photo Library (again there is no iCloud Photos on your phone) is enabled on your phone then you can not manually import the photos therefore the solution is as explained by the Apple Store, turn iCloud Photo Library on the iPhone - many people have had this problem and that is the solution

Hi LarryHN,

Thank you kindly for replying with this confirmation and so promptly.

Am currently doing a manual backup onto a SanDisk expand Flash Drive 128GB, just in case, as have 45,300 files on my iphone X and will then do as above. I simply can not afford to lose any of those images/videos.

By the way, previously I was able to use both systems for image back up...

1) iCloud Photo Library and 2) the use of Image Capture.

It was great as my work requires back up and to say the least, have learnt what it was like to not have back up.

Any idea why they changed what worked...

As they say, "if it aint broke..."

Cheers

Sorry but everyone here are users just like you and have exactly the same knowledge of why things are done as you do

To me direct import and iCloud Photo library are totally incompatible concepts - you either import or sync and I do not see how doing both works - but I have no idea why Apple set things up this way or if they will ever change it

All I know is what is , not why it is or what it will be

And even if we both knew why it would make no difference since it still is what it is adn that is what we have to work with

Hi LN,

No need to be sorry, this has been my first time in here (unfamiliar who is in here/ how it works) after speaking hours upon hours with Apple over the phone and face to face with them trying to solve the issue and I was not sure if you had some kind of connection to them or not... more in-depth information, hence the curiosity question. I always love to know why anything...should the information be available. Sometimes when you know the why, it can create change.

Anyway, being a photographer, backing up to several locations and mediums is a vital part of my job for too many reasons. As said, both systems previously worked and it's just too bad they still don't.

Thank you kindly for your knowledge - much appreciated.

But, he has not answered whether he tried to use 'Preview'.

Preview has some remarkable capabilities when used to its full capacity. I'm curious whether it would apply the use of IC differently than in IC itself.

I also wonder whether Adobe Bridge or the PhotoSync app. might do the trick.
