File extensions are automatically added in finder after editing the file

Whenever I edit a document (Word, Powerpoint...), the file extension is automatically added in Finder. No matter how many times I check hide extension under the files "Get Info". I have tried unchecking "show all filename extensions" under Finder>Preferences, but extensions are still popping up.

I am running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.3.

Thanks!
