Ongoing Apple TV 4K ethernet connection issue

No one ever came up with a good answer to why the new Apple TV 4K will not work with an ethernet connection on certain routers. I have the latest firmware and in talking to the manufacturer of my router they indicate that this is a known problem with the Apple device. Has anyone opened a support ticket with Apple and if so was the issue resolved?

It seems that Apple wants you to purchase their airport extreme since that seems to be the only router that works with the Apple TV 4K. Really frustrating problem. Wifi is not an option so any suggestions are appreciated.

You may want to set the port speed manually on your given router to 1000mbps rather than letting auto negotiate do it. Or hard set it to 100mbps. That might give you a stable link, and it should work fine. I've had to do that on enterprise L3 switches before for various devices.

I spent about an hour on the phone with an Apple support person and he indicated that my problem was not a known issue. I've seen complaints on this board and other web sites about Ethernet connection issues but no one seems to have a resolution. Although the support person walked me through some troubleshooting steps the issue still exists. I'm convinced it's a hardware or firmware issue with Apple TV.

If anyone has had this issue recently I would appreciate hearing from them and whether or not they were able to resolve the issue. Thanks!
