iMac very slow after High Sierra upgrade (EtreCheck report included)

My iMac become very slow after upgrading to High Sierra a few months back. Even opening Safari with no other app open takes ages, with the colour wheel spinning.

I have run EtreCheck (report pasted below) but it shows no Major Issues, and I couldn't interpret the Minor Issues. It says Performance is "Good".

I have 4MB RAM which isn't a lot, but Activity Monitor always shows green Memory Pressure, and CPU always tends to be idle 90% or more so doesn't seem like a CPU issue. I have done NVPRAM and SMC resets and it makes no difference. I have followed instructions from a number of "10 things to improve your Mac's performance" type articles (out of desperation rather than faith in those articles) but no improvement.

Could it be the SATA drive that needs replacing with a SSD? I have heard that High Sierra is unforgiving on non-SSD drives. The SATA drive always seems to be making a noise and doing something even when I am not using the Mac.

If anyone can look at the EtreCheck report below and have any ideas, that would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

4GB of RAM is not enough RAM for current versions of Mac OS. I'd recommend installing another 8GB of RAM to get the computer to12GB. Use ONLY Crucial (buy it direct from Crucial) or www.macsales.com RAM. Also considering the HD is quite old now, you may want to consider replacing it with a SSD.

I got my HDD replaced with a 500GB Wester Digital SSD drive, and upgraded the RAM to 12GB (by adding 2 x 4GB Crucial modules to my pre-existing 2 x 2GB). I am amazed by the difference this has made. I can open multiple resource-intensive apps in High Sierra and there are virtually no issues using them or any spinning wheels. This also proves High Sierra requires a lot more resources than any of its predecessors.

@rkaufmann87, thank you!

iMac very slow after High Sierra upgrade (EtreCheck report included)
