Restricting home shared movies.

Hi,

I have some movies in my iTunes home library that were imported to iTunes on my Mac and are not purchased from the iTunes store. When I want to watch them in AppleTV, I go to the "computers" app in AppleTV, select my computer/library via home share and then select the movie I want to watch. All of the movies are categorized by genre. How do I set restrictions for those home shared movies to keep my kids from watching movies outside of the kids' genre?

Thanks,

J.

Not by genre, but by rating, would that work for you?

If you restrict movies with a certain age-based rating behind a 4-digit PIN code, that will also apply to local movies imported into iTunes-home share. They're still visible in the Library, but not playable without PIN. Thus, for this to work you'll need to have a rating tagged to these imported movies. You can do that kind of meta data editing with e.g. Subler or MetaZ, as iTunes does not assist in setting the rating tag.
