Podcasts' Documents and Data 6GB of memory

I have a 32 GB iPod Touch which is constantly low on memory. I use almost no apps, but do listen to a lot of podcasts - which I delete after listening to them. However the Documents and Data for podcasts is taking up over 6GB of memory and I can find no way to clear it (the podcasts themselves are only about 1 GB.) I deleted a lot of subscriptions - but my Documents and Data use has almost doubled!

I'm not very tech-savvy and have been reading about buying clearing devices, downloading something big (like a film) which would (apparently) clear the space or resetting the iPod.

Are there any suggestions that anyone can recommend?

One thing I can think of brownefox is to delete podcast app this will ask if you want to save data of course you’ll say no.

You said you unsubscribed and deleted podcasts right? So deleting app and redownloading it when your memory is full will take care of the doc & data problem, perhaps someone knows of a better solution.

If you go to settings, general, iPod storage, podcast you’ll see how much memory etc, hope this helps it’s better then resetting your iPod touch

Thank you for replying so quickly v2c4now.

I don't seem to be able to delete the app - when I try to delete it as I would other optional apps it doesn't give me that option. I can see in my storage that my Podcasts are using 1.9 GB of memory and the associated Documents & Data a whopping 6.3 GB - so a total of 8.2 GB. There is only 2 GB of memory left on my iPod.

It's a 5th generation iPod - perhaps the option to delete that Podcasts app isn't available. So frustrating that I can't free up that 6 GB of Documents and Data memory the iPod - and that it keeps growing.

I tried with my sons old iPod went to restriction turned on then >podcast and turned off that made app disappear but data was still there. Question, have you synced iPod to iTunes library ?

Do you see podcast app from the library?

Is there a way to remove from there or delete data from there?

Now this is bugging me.

Turn subscription off from there and sync to your iTunes library afterwards.

I would hope one of these would work, if all else fails if you created backups in your iTunes library you could find a restore point before you started using your podcast that would be an option.

Those are good suggestions.

I was onto Apple support via Twitter yesterday.

They suggested backing up my iPod, resetting and then restoring. Seems a bit drastic! But there doesn't seem to be any easy way around it.

I can't quite bear to do that so am just dealing with not having much memory for the time being.

If I do it I'll post back to say if it was successful.
