Powering Down without sliding

Well, I wasn't the person who provided the original answer. But, if you can't use the screen at all, about the only thing you can do is wait for the battery to run down.

Why can't you use the screen? Is it broken? Or just not responding?

If you go into Settings - General and scroll to the bottom of the page you will see an option to Shut Down.
