Airdrop Stopped Working

Airdrop has suddenly stopped working!

I use it to send photographs from my iphone 7 to my MacbookPro and this is so annoying as I need it for business use.

I can't say for sure if it is one of the recent IOS updates that has caused it and the only other thing I have done is put the phone in airplane mode (and off again) which just switches WIFI and bluetooth off and on again (I think) but I have tried all of the recommended fixes:

* Turned WIFI and bluetooth off and on again

* Restarted both devices

* Turned restrictions on and off (Airdrop is definitely enabled)

* Signed out and in of iCloud

Airdrop, despite being enabled isn't even showing in the Control Centre of my iphone.

I am so frustrated by this sudden loss of an essential tool of my business so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello mac4560,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use AirDrop to send pictures from your iPhone to your MacBook Pro. To help with this situation, please follow these troubleshooting steps suggested by Apple from these resources on your issue:

If you can’t see the other device in AirDrop

If you can't see the person or the device that you're trying to AirDrop to, check the following:

  • Check that both of you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you have Personal Hotspot on, turn it off.
  • Make sure that the person you're sending to is nearby. You can't AirDrop to users who are out of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi range.
  • If the other person’s AirDrop receiving setting is set to Contacts Only, and you’re not in their Contacts, have them set their AirDrop receiving setting to Everyone.

Tips for sending items

If you don't see the recipient in the AirDrop window or sheet:

  • Make sure that both devices have AirDrop turned on and are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other.
  • If you're sending to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
    • Your Mac needs to be a 2012 or newer model with OS X Yosemite or later.
    • The iOS device must be using iOS 7 or later and have Personal Hotspot turned off in Settings > Cellular.
  • If you're sending to a Mac:
    • If the receiving Mac is using OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion, it needs to have an AirDrop window open: choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder.
    • If the receiving Mac is a 2012 or older model, click “Don't see who you're looking for?” in the AirDrop window or sharing sheet of the sending Mac. Then click “Search for an Older Mac.”
    • Find out if the Mac has “Block all incoming connections” turned on in Security & Privacy preferences. A Mac won't receive items using AirDrop if this setting is turned on.
  • If AirDrop on the receiving device is set up to receive items from contacts only, make sure that both devices are signed in to iCloud. Also make sure that the email address or phone number associated with your Apple ID is in the Contacts app of the receiving device.

Thank you so much for this but I am certain that I have done all of these things.

Just to clarify, it was working fine until a couple of weeks ago and I can't pinpoint the event that may have triggered it to stop as I went to Spain, had the phone in airplane mode but also did a High Sierra update on the Mac just before going.

Since returning and when I realised I had a problem I did the latest IOS update on the phone so this can't have anything to do with it.

I have read that others have had problems with certain Apple updates though so could it be the latest High Sierra one?

My husband has an iphone x and I am able to send from my iphone to his but it just seems that my Mac and my iphone are not visible. Both are visible with each other on Bluetooth so it really is a puzzle.
