How can I get iOS High Sierra (10.13.3) to save a file in the CURRENT folder, instead of the one I last saved to?

This drives me NUTS! I'm in a folder, either want to convert a doc to a .pdf, or make some change and save it in the same folder...and then when I go to look for it, it's nowhere to be found! Utlimately, I figure out that it saved the doc, NOT to the folder I was currently working in, or where the original document was located...but to some random freaking folder that I saved something to earlier - even days earlier!

From reading the other questions, this has been a problem for a while, so surely Apple has fixed it in the three years since the last person asked this question, right??

Depends on the app you are using. For example Preview will open the folder the document was located in. I can't speak to all others.

The problem isn't the folder the original document was opened from...the problem is where it's SAVING it to. I.E., I open a document in the folder "Home", make a change to it, ask to save it as a .pdf, and instead of automatically saving it in the "Home" folder, it open the "Office" or "Sports" or whatever folder that I last saved a (different) document to! This is especially annoying, since you think you've save it to the "Home" folder (since the original document was in the Home folder and you haven't navigated out of the Home folder), but then it saves it somewhere else!

As I mentioned - I see in the Communities that this has been going on for a while, but I was hoping there was a "master" action you could set that would always "Save to current folder", or something like that....

I understood your question. If I open a document file in "Documents" and make a change to it, ask to save it as a pdf, the same folder it originated from, i.e. "Documents" opens. Assuming I opened it in Preview.

OK - well that's the problem...it doesn't work that way for me. That's what I can't figure out. But then again, I'm not separately opening the item in Preview (I don't really need to see it again, I just need it to save the changes as a new document). So...if you have a Document folder (named whatever), and you open (for example) a Pages document. Then you make changes to the Pages document and then go to save it as a .pdf....THAT's when my system isn't saving it to the same folder...unless I make sure to notice that it isn't the same folder and then change it, it saves it in a different folder from where I just opened the Pages document.

Is there something I'm missing?

As I mentioned. It depends on the app. Doesn't work in Pages. Pages will open the last saved to folder rather than the originating folder. So no, you aren't missing anything.
