Keynote lags on external monitor

When I plug my MBP into an external monitor, Keynote animations/transitions lag, sometimes for several seconds. It completely messes up my animations.

This has happened on several different monitors, including my Dell P2715Q, but also on the projectors I use. This happens whether the displays are mirrored or not.

Activity Monitor showed just now that I have about 6GB of 16GB of RAM free (just running Keynote and Chrome).

I've tried unclicking "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control as suggested in a previous post.

Any suggestions?

As Etrecheck has indicated you are running out of RAM which will certainly impact on running a second display.

You have a dedicated graphics Card in your system but its not helping in this case. Chrome is a disaster for hogging every ounce of memory so try creating a new user account dedicated to using Keynote:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Users and Groups; click the padlock button to allow you to make changes (bottom left) then enter your password.
Click the + button to create a new user and create a user with Admin rights.
Log in as the new user and go to the Login items tab, remove anything listed by selecting then clicking the minus button
test keynote without running any other applications.

This is not normal operation for MBP's and Keynote so I suggest you download and install Etrecheck, to see whats preventing your system from working at optimum. Download, install, run the application then post the results so we can can advise appropriately.

Thanks, Gary. I ran Etrecheck, and it reports that I don't have any major issues, other than Chrome using a lot of RAM (I had just Chrome and Etrecheck open). I had 25-30 tabs open in two windows when I ran the check, which is about normal for me, and has been since I got the MBP (i.e. before the current problem became severe). Also, since I frequently run RAM intensive programs (Adobe CC), I didn't think this would be a problem.

I still have the same problem with lag when I quit out of Chrome, too.

I don't suspect the issue is related, but my camera crapped out last summer.
