Is there an updated 2018 article on removing Advanced Mac Cleaner pop-ups from a Mac (I'm running El Capitan)? Past articles talk about removing it from Safari, but I get the pop-up on my desktop even when no apps are running, and I don't even use Safari as my browser. Thanks!

I'd recommend Malwarebytes for Mac. It will detect and delete/remove almost every scareware, spyware and other crap😉
