Factory reset & spinning globe

please help! I am looking to sell my macbook Pro, however wanted to restore to factory setting before I do. I followed instructions to wipe the drive, however before I could reinstall, it rebooted and for the past three hours there has been a spinning globe with a Timer under it. When it first restarted it asked for my internet login, but nothing since and the timer Varies from 1 hour to 24 hours. I did try to restart again earlier and hold down the command R buttons but it didn’t work. I am worried that I have really messed something up, please help!
