Question: Deleting hub from homekit

I returned my Homepod. Now the HomeKit App shows “kitchen not responding” because Homepod inserted itself as a hub in the Kitchen. How can I remove it? I don’t see any way in settings on iPad or on my Apple TV, which serves as my only remaining Hub.

Thanks!

Finally figured it out (pure luck!).

Settings>Username>Scroll down to see the device you want to remove and click it - HomePod>Remove This Device. Have two users in the house. Once the device was removed from the person under whose Apple ID the Pod was set, the “Kitchen Not Responding” error message on HomeKit disappeared. But the device did show up on both accounts, so we removed from the secondary user as well. I hope this is clear. thanks. Just tried that. Moved all accessories and lights to another room, then deleted Kitchen as a room. Rebooted devices. Kitchen was no longer a room but it still came up “Kitchen not responding”. Apple really needs to work on integrating things better. I should be able to easily find out where it is reading that from. Just another reason I’m glad to have gotten rid of HomePod.

thanks for trying!

So far the only kit I have is the HomePod and an Apple TV 4, so I'm not really sure exactly what you should be able to do via the Home app. I rather suspect you'll have to remove the Home and then set it up again. 😮

Lol. That’s what we always have to do with Apple products, delete and start over. It’s getting old.

This is especially annoying with all of the various parts: Schlegel door locks, Hue lights, plugs and motion detectors, a few iDevices and various Caseta outlets. Maybe I should just get Alexa and start over there.

Thanks for trying!

You're welcome. 🙂

If you do find the trick could you please post it for others? You might also want to use Feedback - HomePod - Apple to let Apple know that there is an issue deleting a removed HomePod from Home.
