Need help getting an iPhone 7 to connect to a 2018 Lexus for messaging, any suggestions?

My iPhone 7 running IOS 11.2.6 connects well to my 2018 Lexus very well for phone, contact lists, etc except for messaging. I have tried turning the show notifications switch off and back on. I’ve tried both soft and hard reboots of the phone. Deleting phone of the car and the car off the phone but so far no success. Is there anything else I can try?
