Update Apple ID Settings and red alert circle won't go away

Hi. In my iPhone X (iOs 11.2.6) settings, right under my name, it says "Update Apple ID Settings". Next to that is a red circle with 1 inside it. When I hit the button, it prompts me to enter my Apple ID password, which I do. This seems to fix the issue, because the message/red circle disappears for a short period of time. Eventually, the red circle and Update Apple ID Settings appears again. I've gone through the process many times but it seems to be stuck in a loop. I saw that other people had this same question earlier this year, but I didn't see any solutions. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.
