My iPHone X & a friend's have same problem. Occasionally, earpiece stops working and can only hear on speaker phone. The only fix is to keep resetting phone. Any suggestions? Have current software 11.2.6

Have you tried bringing it to an Apple Store for hardware diagnostic?

Same for me today. Upper speaker (earpiece) doesnt work. After a restart all is fine.
Before all runs fine for over 10 weeks....
