JDK Java pop up - how get rid of it?

Anybode have an idea? How do I get rid of a pop up window telling me (in translation from Swedish) - If you would like to use "Java" commando tool you have to install a JDK". I use an iMac High Sierra 10.13.3 version.

The only Java file required for normal use and with browsers is the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin which is located in the HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. All other Java files, from Oracle, are not needed unless you have an app that specifically requires it. If not search for directions to remove the other Java files.

com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist (? 0 - installed )

You've installed what is considered by more around here as malware. It is totally unnecessary and a detriment to system and application performance. Read this user tip and then uninstall it: Do not install MacKeeper

Uninstall MacKeeper™

Also anying "cleaning" apps (Dr Cleaner), "optimizing" apps or anti virus apps are not necessary. The all tend to be more detrimental to the Mac's performance than do any good.

Time since boot: About 18 days

One should reboot more frequently, 1 or 2 times a week, to clear out old cache and swap files. Booting into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, will do that in addition to running other cleaning and repair procedures. I do a Safe Mode boot about once a month and a normal reboot frequently.

Rerun Etrecheck and do the Clean Up it requests.

Once you remove all of the deadwood reboot and see if the popups continue.

Just of of curiosity and to learn, as my Mac is running 11 days 7 hours now, without apparent issues. Wouldn’t the automated scripts (daily, weekly, monthly) take care of whatever maintenance should be done according to Apple? The linked page touts its diagnostic virtues, but not any preventive virtues explicitly.

Maybe you have software installed that requires Java to run? But I think such software should ask for a JRE (Java Runtime Environment, for end users), not a JDK (Java Development Kit, for programmers).

What are you doing when the message pops up? Do you have clues where the message originates? Does it have to do with visiting a webpage, or running certain software?

Mar 14, 2018 4:19 AM in response to Urquhart1244

Hi. I have the latest version of Java installed. I´m not a developer just an ordinary user. I think Java is a help program/app connected to various web browsers. I have the latest version for iMac installed, that is 9.0.4.

The pop up window comes up over and over again independent of what program I´m in for the moment. I just click OK, sometimes I have clicked "more info" but that didn´t make me any wiser unfortunately.

Mar 14, 2018 5:56 AM in response to SidneyS

Java has more uses than just as web browser plugin, but that is perhaps a different discussion. That being said, JDK is aimed at software developers, not end users.

You may want to run EtreCheck and Malwarebytes to check for unwanted processes running the background.

The first will generate a report of the status of your Mac, which we could review for clues, if you choose to share it.

The latter will scan for malware (malicious software).

Both are highly regarded on these forums.

Mar 14, 2018 12:33 PM in response to SidneyS

Hello again. Thanks for the input. I have now run both Etrecheck and Malware bytes. E report no major issues, minor issues was heavy RAM usage (guessing to many programs open at the same time?) but no need for immediate attention but perhaps in the future.

M confirm four threats - all connected to MacKeeper. (Something I don´t even recall having/using.)

My guess is that these reports show the mashine is OK and nothing that indicate any connection with the Java JDK popping up. An earlier thread (in Swedish) discussed if it had something to do with this version, update, of High Sierra, that using an older version of Java should solve this? But I don´t know. Any idea? And thanks for your time.

If your Mac is in sleep mode overnight the scripts won't run according to this: XLab website: Running the Mac OS X maintenance scripts. The following is from that site:

Mac® OS X is a UNIX®-based system, built in part on both BSD® and FreeBSD®. UNIX systems run scheduled maintenance routines — known as maintenance scripts — to clean up a variety of System logs and temporary files. By default, these are executed between 03:15 and 05:30 hours local time, depending on the script.

If your Mac is shut down or in sleep mode during these hours, the maintenance scripts will not run. [1] This results in log files that will grow over time, consuming free space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

Do you leave the Mac on but just with the screensaver running?
