FCP lost my Event

I've just deleted my preferences for FCPX and upon reopening FCPX my timeline, Event and Library have gone.

Unfortunatley I hadn't titled my Libraries very well but when I do a search for the actual event (I remember the name of that 😊 ) in Finder I find them under an 'Untitled' Library. BUT when I click on the Untitled library in FCP the event isn't there.

I've googled and googled this and can't figure out how to get the event to show up in FCP.

Untitled’s not a good name. It’s the default name for a library that FCP creates when you first launch the application. When you trash your preferences it’s as if the application is being launched for the first time.

Where the event is depends on how you set where to store the media. It might be inside the library.

If you can’t remember the name of the library, do a Finder search for .fcpbundle. That will show you all the libraries including the date/time stamped backups, which you should ignore.

Ok, I finally figured it out. I'll explain for anyone having the same issue.

I searched for the event in the Finder window > Clicked on the folder and got the name of the Library > Dragged that folder into my Final Cut Pro Backups folder and now I can open 'untitled' again and my event shows up.

I'm one of those people who just cannot get my head around the Library, event, project thing! It's like it just completely confuses me and I don't know why?!

You are really confused...

Libraries are FCP X's "documents".

You should name it in a sensible way.

To open a library, just double-click it.

If you write a text document in, say TextEdit (or even, perish the thought, MS Word...), would you call it "Untitled"? I guess not.

And if you write a work report, a cooking recipe and a personal letter, would they all be in the same text document or separate ones?

Similarly, one should not have a single library, but one per "production".
