Safari redirects to malicious sites

Force Quit Safari ( command + option + esc keys).Then restart Safari holding the Shift key. If you still have problems Empty Caches (Safari menu > Preferences > Privacy > Remove all website data. (This will also remove history if you do not want to remove History open Safari Preferences > Advanced and check mark “Show Develop Menu” then choose “Empty Caches” from Develop Menu ).

Then go to Safari Preferences > Extensions and check there. If there is an extension delete it.

If the problem persists download and run MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

EDIT: Also be sure to clear your History or any of those urls in the History. Also, it may not be a bad idea to run Malwarebytes just to be sure.

If Malwarebytes doesn't fix the problem, try running this program in your normal user account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. You can run the report for free at least once, but if you run it several times, at some point it will ask you to pay a license fee.

This is a really late reply, and I apologize for that since it seems like the issue has been solved. But, I can still offer a few pieces of advice. Those "malicious" websites that you have been directed to are, 90% of the time, scams. While it is possible to get malware on an Apple device, it is highly unlikely. I personally wouldn't worry, as long as MalwareBytes is running. I do a lot of work catching and confronting tech support scams, and a good majority of their websites reach out to apple users as well. They try to pull you in and make you, sometimes unknowingly, download fake software.

For or future reference, whenever you happen to stumble upon these websites, immediately report them to Apple. It's helps a lot!

We are always constantly looking to find, and hopefully block those websites so that other users can't be redirected to them as well. Although I said that reporting them to apple is a good idea, they don't always do something about it.
