2009 imac won't startup. Latest OS. We don't have startup discs anymore. White screen with apple keeps loading for hours and hours.

Try an SMC reset:

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Try starting up in Safe Mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't work try booting into Recovery Mode and reinstall Mac OS:
