"Your system is infected with (3) Viruses” when opening a Safari tab

This message came up when I was opening a new window in the Safari browser and makes all sorts of threats if I don’t call Apple Support at 1-866-726-**** and follow Virus removal procedure immediately. I’m always wary of these things and just want to know if anyone else has run across this particular warning.

It's spam. Read here > Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

No viruses on iOS? Maybe. But certainly phishing pop-ups and emails. A link on my own website has been hacked to take viewers to gambling websites. So I will continue with anti-virus software - belt and braces.

That's just your site that has been hacked. You can insert JavaScript to redirect anything to anywhere. The problem is not on the iPhone. The problem is on your website. That is what this whole thread, all 27 pages, is about. It's not on your computer, it is on the website.

I don’t know why you feel the need to argue with me on this! I responded to a message, saying I had the same problem, and stating what I did. That’s all.

Your reply is completely unrelated to the subject of this ancient Discussion, which ought to be retired since it was correctly answered within two minutes of it having been posted. Yet hapless users continue to come across it two years later.

The reason people continue to ask that question after all this time demonstrates a degree of ineptitude so colossal I would have thought it impossible among sentient beings, let alone supposedly competent users of technologically sophisticated equipment. Until recently that is.

If you are experiencing a problem with your iPhone then you need to create your own Discussion.

Ignore and move on yes - but I won’t get rid of Norton!

Your devices will never work properly with such junk installed.

But certainly phishing pop-ups and emails.

Neither is malware of any kind. It's social engineering. i.e. , getting the user to believe in false claims. You're either smart enough to figure out it's a scam, or you aren't. No software is going to protect you from yourself.

A link on my own website has been hacked to take viewers to gambling websites.

So secure your website with a much more difficult to guess/hack password. This, again, has nothing to do with any kind of malware. You made it a bit too easy for someone to gain access to your web space.

So I will continue with anti-virus software…

And so you will continue to completely waste system resources looking for something that doesn't exist. Good plan.
