Safari won't let me change Search Engine

Your (dominic23's) answer in another thread " Click the magnifying icon in the address bar and choose your preferred search engine." does change the search engine. Hooray! It still can't be changed from the dropdown in Preferences, but this solves the problem.

And... the advice by ThomasR in this thread Cannot change search engine in prefs about a particular series of mouse clicks on the Preferences screen, does allow changing the default Home Page.
