"com.apple.PressAndHold (not responding)"

Periodically my Macbook A1342 displays 'Your System Has Run Out of Application Memory' and when I force-quit applications I may left running. I see "com.apple.PressAndHold (not responding)" at the bottom of the list ALONG WITH "Skype (not responding)".


My Macbook is operating macOS 10.13.3 with 8GB. I'll appreciate the community's assessment and responsible comments on this - I'm asking if there's a software/firmware approach to try rather than just adding more memory. TIA to all!
